Caring For Rubber Flooring

Caring For Rubber Flooring

Rubber flooring is an increasingly popular choice in recent years, and this rings true particularly in home gyms and playrooms. The really great thing about rubber flooring is that it is incredibly impact and damage resistant, as well as mold and bacteria growth resistant, but you’re going to have to keep it clean if you wish to maintain it for many years to come. Like with any type of flooring, regular cleaning is simply a part of regular maintenance, and knowing the right way to care for this type of flooring is the secret to getting the most out of it.

The first thing you want to keep in mind when caring for your rubber flooring is that although it tends to be water resistant, you’ll still want to take special care to clean up spills right away. Whether the spill is water, juice, soda, or any other type of liquid, it can saturate into the rubber over time and this could cause the adhesive joining the flooring to your floor to begin to falter. Cleaning up any spills promptly will also help to keep your rubber flooring simple to clean and looking great, so this is a habit that pays off anyway!

To get dust and debris from rubber flooring, we often recommend vacuuming it with a high quality vacuum, as this will be more effective in picking up any debris when compared to sweeping. Rubber flooring will often have a sort of “rough” texture to its surface when compared to hardwood, vinyl, or cork, and this can cause sweeping to leave debris behind. With a vacuum, thoroughly go over all portions of the rubber floor, and make sure to pick up as much surface debris as possible.

When it comes time to mop or wet-clean your rubber flooring, the worst thing you can do is use harsh chemicals. With rubber, you’ll want to keep things gentle and mild, and a very tiny bit of very gentle dish soap is enough. For more regular cleanings needed in higher traffic areas, you may even find that just a bit of warm water on a soft cloth can clean effectively as well. When cleaning your rubber flooring, you’ll want to forego the mop, and use simply a cloth to clean the flooring area by hand.

Rubber flooring is an excellent flooring option for so many reasons, and we want to make sure yours lasts as long as you’d like it to. With regular maintenance and care, your flooring can give you a life we’re sure you’ll be more than satisfied with!
